This is part of National Hazing Prevention Awareness Week
Location
University Center : 312
Date & Time
September 27, 2023, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Description
It's National Hazing Prevention Week and also UMBC Be Your Best Self Week.
We will be viewing clips from the acclaimed documentary Hazing, featuring Byron Hurt (director of “Hip-Hop:
Beyond Beats and Rhymes” and “Soul Food Junkies”, both of which aired
nationally on PBS). Hazing offers a powerful, deeply personal look inside the
culture of hazing on America’s college campuses. Hurt, a fraternity
member himself, gives voice to members of both Black and historically
white Greek-letter organizations, survivors of severe hazing, and
families of young people who died during fraternity and sorority
initiation rituals.
Following the documentary, there will be a group discussion regarding the applications to our context at UMBC.
