Description
UMBC partners with The Washington Center, a nonprofit academic
internship program to provide students the opportunity to intern in the
nation’s capital for a semester or summer. You earn credit from UMBC for
your work and internship opportunities are available for students of
all majors in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. A sample of
past placements include: U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives,
World Bank, CBS News, Brookings Institute, US Food and Drug
Administration, Montgomery County Public Defender’s, Democratic National
Committee, Save the Children, Peace Corps, Library of Congress, United
Nations Foundation, U.S. Marshals, Pan American Health Organization,
Environmental Protection Agency, Torture Abolition and Survivor Support
Coalition International, a variety of embassies, congressional offices,
law firms, corporations, think tanks, lobbying firms, and many more!
This year, the state of Maryland has committed to support UMBC students
who are Maryland residents with a substantial scholarship of up to
$9,000 ($2,000 is contingent on using TWC housing). If you choose not to
use housing during the summer, students still receive $6,200 to cover
the program fee as well as an $800 reimbursement check. Students
interested in the summer 2015 program are encouraged to apply by the
