UMBC partners with The Washington Center (www.twc.edu), an academic nonprofit to offer students the opportunity to intern in Washington, DC for a semester or summer which may be eligible for UMBC credit. Opportunities are available for students of all majors in the public, private, and non profit arenas.

UMBC Students have interned with National PTA, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, U.S. Department of Treasury, Department of Defense, The Cuba Center for a Free Cuba, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, U.S. Coalition for Child Survival, Earth Share, National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislatures, Potomac Institute of Policy Studies, Department of Veteran Affairs, and Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, various embassies, law firms, corporations, think tanks, lobbying firms, and many more!

Students attending UMBC who are also Maryland residents are eligible for a $9,000 scholarship towards The Washington Center's housing and program fees. $2,000 of this amount is contingent on living in TWC's provided housing. Even if a local student should choose not to live in TWC housing, they will still receive a $7,000 scholarship towards TWC program fee, which for the summer, completely covers the TWC program cost.

Students who are interested can feel free to attend this info session or email info@twc.edu. You also have a campus liaison at UMBC, Jeremiah Sawyer at jsawyer2@umbc.edu.
