Description

This Saturday will mark the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people on September 11, 2001. The UMBC community is invited to attend events this week for reflection and to honor the victims, their families, our veterans, medical personnel, and all those–human and canine–that supported rescue and recovery efforts in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

UMBC will hold a flag ceremony in remembrance of those killed on September 11, 2001. On that day at 8:46 a.m. the first group of hijackers deliberately crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into floors 93 through 99 of the World Trade Center’s North Tower. There will be a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m, and remarks by Nancy Young, vice president for student affairs; Candace Dodson-Reed, chief of staff and executive director, Office of Equity and Inclusion; and a member of the Department of Emergency Health Services. Also in attendance will be members of the Arbutus and Halethorpe Fire Departments, and Navy ROTC.

The event will be held on September 10 at the flagpoles outside the Administration building.
